Case Study: ValleyCrest Companies

ValleyCrest Companies

Engagement Summary

everse built a consolidated database environment with failover clustering for ValleyCrest Companies. The new environment helps ensure the company and its customers have secure and uninterrupted access to the information they need to do business.

Client Profile

Operating through four business units and a national network of branch offices, ValleyCrest Companies provide a full array of landscape services to a wide variety of customers. In addition, ValleyCrest Companies has one wholly owned subsidiary, U.S. Lawns, a national landscape franchise business.

Business Challenges

ValleyCrest's database environment was divided into disparate systems running separate instances of SQL Server. The database environment:

  • Lacked redundancy and failover functionality.
  • Compromised the reliability and availability of data and functionality.
  • Impaired the performance of related systems.
  • Made adding new or modifying existing databases and applications difficult.
everse Solution

Over the course of one month, everse infrastructure and database architects consolidated and enhanced ValleyCrest's database environment. The everse team:

  • Deployed new HP hardware configured with Windows 2000 Advanced Server and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition.
  • Enabled access to all of ValleyCrest's databases via a single virtual SQL Server instance.
  • Implemented Microsoft Clustering Services with failover functionality.
